Quality Control Procedures for Large Projects
When translating small
amounts of text changes can be incorporated while the translation is
progressing or after project completion. However, when handling medium-large
projects (more than 30,000 words) changes are more difficult to include after
completing the project or when the project is near conclusion. This is
particularly true when there are many changes. Therefore, we have created a
set of procedures to facilitate quality control, and to make sure we tailor
the translation to the client's particular needs within an acceptable time
frame. These are the basic steps: Client establishes languages and proposes deadline
for the project
All necessary files to be translated are submitted
to ALTER Translations
A deadline to complete the translation is set
The client provides all necessary contact info for
the people who
If the contact info for reviewers is not available a
deadline
ALTER submits a glossary –if necessary– for
the reviewer to complete and return before
the project has reached 1/3 of the proposed deadline
Ideally, the first files should be submitted to
the reviewers before reaching
ALTER submits the files (usually 1 to 3) to the
reviewer using the "Track Changes While Editing" feature of Word to
make changes easily visible
For large projects the reviewers return the
reviewed files before the project
ALTER contacts the reviewer and/or any other
appropriate person within the client's organization to discuss the proposed
changes and to provide linguistic counseling
All changes agreed upon by the client and Alter are
incorporated to the translated files
ALTER delivers the files to the client and/or
printing service
